I like to explore humanity in my art; the emotional and intellectual experiences that define us, and the connections that we seek. We struggle for power, we yearn for love, we want to see ourselves in others, we celebrate our shared interests. It’s how we identify our community, our place of belonging in this world, in spite of where we come from or what we look like or who we connect to.
My work highlights the bonds between sisters, lovers, friends. And it explores how we value ourselves, the importance of prioritizing and celebrating your own identity. I use a lot of circular imagery and composition in my work to represent how relationship patterns repeat across space and time – it feels as though there are specific energies that correspond to each relationship, and tie humankind together. My subjects are often faceless, or have minimal defining features – I’m not telling any one person’s story, even if my inspiration comes from a specific reference in my life.
